Conference members outside the Officers' Mess, RNZAF Base Ohakea

Officers from the Central Area recently attended their annual conference hosted on RNZAF Base Ohakea.

The Central Area Office team put together a wide range of topics of interest many of them being generated from the Unit Officers themselves.  Subjects addressed ranged from revising Risk Management strategies, the inclusion of NZQA unit standards into a Cadet Unit's training programme, new cadet Leadership course organisation, and the trials and tribulations of bringing a Cadet Unit into existence.

In addition, the Commandant, Wing Commander Guy Bendall, provided an up-date on progress towards establishing a vision, mission and values statement that  will form the organisation's foundations as it moves into the second decade of the 21st Century.

All bar two Central Area units were represented at the conference. This is a good measure of the importance Cadet Officers place on the chance to receive up-to-date information as well as renewing contacts made on previous activities.

Brigadier Sean Trengrove, Director General Reserve Forces and Youth Development, addressed the conference dinner. He was full of admiration for the voluntary work being put into the country's young people by Cadet Forces officers and support committees and commended them all on their efforts to date.
