A montage of cadet activities

While many young New Zealanders were spending their Christmas holidays in front of computer screens or in shopping malls a number of cadets were out there getting the most from outdoor experiences.

Among these experiences were:

  • 30 New Zealand Cadet Corps cadets competed for the National Skills trophy in Auckland.
  • Four Air Training Corps cadets on the RNZAF Flying Scholarship flew with the RNZAF at Base Ohakea.
  • Over 70 cadets from all three Corps learnt Bushcraft skills on the Outdoor Leaders' course held at Dip Flat  in the Nelson Lakes area.
  • 136 cadets from the 17 Sea Cadet units competed in the Sea Cadet Corps National Regatta at Whangapararoa.
  • 35 Air Training Corps cadets learnt to fly at the National Power flight camp while a further 18 learnt to navigate aircraft at the National Aviation Navigation camp.
  • 36 Sea Cadet Corps cadets attended their Sail Charge course where they confirmed skills in helming craft.
  • 40 cadets from all three Corps attended the Advanced Leaders course held at the Royal New Zealand Police College. Skills learnt will enable these cadets to undertake senior positions within their Cadet Units.
  • 20 Air Training Corps cadets experienced glider flying at the National Gliding camp at Dannevirke.
