Wing Commander Guy Bendall, Commandant of New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF), (pictured right) has presented Police Commissioner Howard Broad (pictured left) with a NZCF plaque and a framed course photo as a token of appreciation for hosting the latest NZCF Advanced Leaders course at the Royal New Zealand Police College.

The course held in January was the first time the NZCF has conducted an Authorised Activity not hosted by one of the NZDF single Services.

The nine day Advanced Leaders Course provides 40 senior cadets (17-20 yrs) from the Sea Cadet Corps, New Zealand Cadet Corps and Air Training Corps with training in the skills they require to contribute fully to their Units training programmes. Included were; team building, functional leadership, ceremonial drill, risk management, instructional technique and unit administration.

Hosting the course at the college gave the Police the opportunity to have an input into the course in such areas as youth at risk and youth law and to conduct a recruiting presentation. The cadets also enjoyed the opportunity to view the firing range and complete the Police physical competency test.

It is believed that the relationship between the NZCF and the Police will become even stronger with recognition at the highest levels of the advantages to both organisations of such co-operation. A number of opportunities will be explored to further this relationship.
